Did Will Levis’ mayo-scented cologne cause this horrific interception? An SB Nation investigation
Earlier this NFL season, Tennessee Titans quarterback Will Levis announced that his love of mayonnaise had taken a new form. In partnership with Hellmann’s Mayonnaise, Levis unveiled a cologne inspired by the condiment, Will Levis No. 8, featuring “bold, savory notes of tart, mayonnaise accord, musk and vanilla with coffee undertones.”
We had questions then.
We have more questions now.
With the Titans holding a one-point lead over the Chicago Bears Sunday at Soldier Field, Levis and the Tennessee offense faced a 3rd-and-6 situation near midfield. Levis dropped into the pocket to throw but was soon put under heavy pressure by the Bears defensive front.
What he did next was nothing short of disastrous:
While falling to the turf Levis attempted to fling the football towards the sidelines, in either an ill-fated try at completing a pass or a last-minute effort to throw the ball away and avoid the sack. Whatever he was trying to do, however, failed horribly. The wobbly toss ended up in the waiting arms of Bears cornerback Tyrique Stevenson, who was all too happy to return the interception for a go-ahead score.
Now.
To be fair to Levis there is absolutely no evidence at this time that the scent from Will Levis No. 8 caused a momentary loss of situational awareness.
But we cannot rule it out either.
Further studies are warranted.
