Grimace was the saddest Mets fan after Phillies’ comeback NLDS win

Not Grimace!

If you think for a second that a sports director isn’t capable of cinema the caliber of Martin Scorsese then you best think again. On Sunday evening the Phillies took Game 2 thanks for some Nick Castellanos magic with a ninth inning walk-off, and the saddest eyes in the building were those of Grimace, McDonald’s anthropomorphic milkshake.

Now, aside from the obvious hilariousness of the moment, this raises a lot of questions about the nature of Grimace himself. How did he get a ticket to the game? Did this play result in a crippling gambling debt to the Fry Kids, now grown up and running a high-stakes illegal sports betting book out of Atlantic City?

As with most things, the simplest solution is probably the correct one: Grimace became a Mets fan to hit on Mrs. Met, but since that time he’s truly come to love the team. The mutual love affair between the Mets and Grimace embraces the weirdness we aspire to in society, but are too often afraid to show it in public.

It’s unclear if this is a long term relationship or a one season fling, but either way the pain is real.
