Keith Mitchell had another hilarious moment during the first round of The Players Championship.

At the 2023 Players Championship, Keith Mitchell produced one of the funniest moments in professional golf history.

It was late in the day, with darkness about to settle in and a suspension of play was also imminent. Despite that, Mitchell stepped up on the tee at the par-4 5th, one of the most challenging holes at TPC Sawgrass, and fired away. Immediately after making contact, Mitchell slammed his club into the ground as his ball looked destined for the water. Then, with his ball still in the air, the horn sounded, indicating that the tour had stopped play for the day. Mitchell’s ball then splashed into the pond to the right of the 5th fairway, thus creating an iconic moment that diehard golf fans have not forgotten.

Two years later, Mitchell had another hilarious club slam.

While playing his second hole of the tournament on Thursday, the par-5 11th, Mitchell hit a massive duck hook from the fairway with a wood. Immediately after contact, Mitchell went full-throttle, slamming his club into the turf like chopping wood with an axe.

Mitchell ultimately made a five on the 11th, but he did post three bogies on his opening nine holes. The former Georgia Bulldog salvaged a birdie on the par-5 16th, as his scorecard added up to a 2-over 38 on his front side.

He teed off at 7:51 a.m. ET alongside Justin Lower and Nicolai Højgaard, the second group of the day.
