Which tight end will shine in Week 8 for your fantasy football teams? We’ll take a look at all of them in our PPR rankings.
Welcome to Week 8 of the NFL season. You know the drill. We have some light banter, where I complain about something and give you a quick rundown of the “state of the tight end position,” and then I look at the injuries and give you a couple tight ends I’d be up for streaming this week.
As for the banter, how about that Brock Bowers kid? Guy can really play! And, David (no joke) Njoku is set to take off if we can get James Winston in there over Dorian Thompson-Robinson. The Mark Andrews who is usually riding the bench scored how many touchdowns? You Otton have played the Buccaneers tight end! Okay, okay, I’m done!
The tight end position has taken a nice step forward of late and we’re getting some good usage. It’s still not great, but 11 tight ends caught five or more passes in Week 7, and they’re mostly guys you’ve heard of! And injuries/trades have helped some tight ends see more work, like George Kittle, Brock Bowers, Cade Otton, Will Dissly, George Kittle, and Noah Gray.
Overall, Bowers’ 47 receptions are 13 more than the next best tight end, Kittle. Kittle does have five touchdown receptions though, which gives him the lead in PPR points per game. Travis Kelce sits with 28 receptions, but has no touchdowns, taking him out of the PPR fantasy Top-10. We should expect more touchdowns from him sooner than later. As for Bowers, who has just the one touchdown, I wouldn’t be quite as optimistic that he’ll go on a touchdown spree, but in PPR, he’s going to continue to put up strong numbers with Davante Adams out of town.
Week 8 tight end bye weeks
None
Week 8 tight end injuries
Dallas Goedert, Eagles
Goedert suffered a hamstring injury in Week 6 against the Browns. He missed Week 7 against the Giants after not practicing all week. His status for Week 8 against the Bengals is unknown at this time, but he’ll need to likely get in a couple days to prove a reinjury isn’t likely.
Taysom Hill, Saints
Hill has missed the last two games due to a chest injury, but appears like he’ll have a shot at returning this week, per Erin Summers. Chris Olave could also be back from his concussion, but Rashid Shaheed is out for the season.
T.J. Hockenson, Vikings
Hockenson wasn’t able to return from I.R. last week, but should be very close to doing so this week against the Rams. If he can, he’ll be worth a start on most tight end needy teams in a good matchup.
Week 8 tight end sleepers
Evan Engram, Jaguars vs. Packers
Engram is back and getting plenty of targets. He hasn’t found the end zone, but touchdowns aren’t his thing. What is his thing is giving us PPR points from bunches of receptions. In his two games since returning from injury he’s caught all 15 of his targets for 137 yards. The Packers defense ranks 25th in adjusted fantasy points allowed to tight ends, which is their weak link statistically.
David Njoku, Browns vs. Ravens
The Browns are 10 point underdogs to the Ravens and we’re not even sure who their starting quarterback is. We do know that Njoku is set up for success as the top underneath receiver who excels at yards after the catch and the Browns will more than likely trail, pushing them to pass. Add in the Ravens poor tight end defense, which has allowed third-most schedule adjusted fantasy points to the tight end position, and we have a smash play.
