The PGA Tour returns to Utah for the first time since the 1960s as the Black Desert Resort Golf Course takes center stage. The late great Tom Weiskopf, who won the 1973 Open Championship at Royal Troon, designed this course, which meanders through black molten lava and desert cliffs. It was also Weiskopf’s last design before he passed away in August 2022.
At 65 years old, Jay Don Blake will make his 500th career start at the inaugural Black Forest Championship in Utah. Other notables in the field this week include Keith Mitchell, Beau Hossler, Nick Taylor, and the most recent PGA Tour University graduate, Michael Thorbjornsen. Five events remain on the PGA Tour Fall Schedule after this week.
The LPGA, meanwhile, begins its Asia swing in Shanghai. This no-cut event features defending champion Angel Yin, young phenom Rose Zhang, and Australian Hannah Green, who has had a tremendous season in her own right.
Over in Europe, the DP World Tour returns to the continent, as Le Golf National will host the FedEx Open de France this week. Rain and wet conditions have dampened this famous French layout, which hosted the 2018 Ryder Cup and most recently hosted the Olympic Golf Competitions this past summer. Billy Horschel, Justin Rose, Matthieu Pavon, and the Højgaard twins, Rasmus and Nicolai, are all in this week’s field in France.
And then, the PGA Tour Champions wraps up its regular season in Cary, North Carolina, at the SAS Championship. After this event, the top 72 players advance to the Charles Schwab Cup Playoffs. Bernhard Langer, Ernie Els, and Padraig Harrington are the headliners.
