Speaking ahead of the Cowboys’ game against the Rams, Jerry Jones did a little damage control
Late last week Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones expressed that there was not any “urgency” in getting a deal done with star wide receiver CeeDee Lamb, who continues to hold out from training camp as the two sides negotiate a contract extension. Jones’ comments drew some skepticism from around the football world, including a curt “lol” response from the receiver on social media.
That led the Dallas owner to try to walk those comments back Sunday.
Speaking on the NFL Network ahead of the Cowboys’ game against the Los Angeles Rams, Jones made it clear that the receiver was “missed” by the team as he continues his holdout. Our friends at Blogging the Boys captured the entire answer from Jones:
“I understand completely the angst that’s happening when you’re ancious about and someone says anything about whether you’re missed or not. Well, CeeDee: You’re missed,” said the Dallas owner.
To emphasize that final point Jones turned and tried to speak directly to the camera — and Lamb — when making that final statement.
Jones then attempted to frame his comments regarding a lack of “urgency” around the fact that Lamb, if he were practicing with the team, would not be participating in Sunday’s game, as the team would not want to risk Lamb injuring himself before the season. Jones noted that Dak Prescott — who is practicing with the team as he too tries to work out a contract extension — would not be playing against the Rams.
As of publication, Lamb has yet to respond on social media to the latest from Jones.
