Meet the 13 athletes who could be on the next 3×3 Olympic women’s basketball team

USA basketball announceD its 3×3 women’s developmental camp roster on Monday.

USA Basketball announced on Monday the 13 athletes are expected to participate in the 2024 USA Basketball 3×3 Women’s National Team development camp from November 8th to 10th in Phoenix. Participants will be considered for future USA 3×3 national team assignments — including the world championships and in the Olympics.

The following athletes will be in attendance:

  • Shakira Austin — Washington Mystics third-year center, drafted with the No. 3 pick out of Ole Miss in 2022. Austin won a 5-on-5 gold medal at the 2022 FIBA Women’s World Cup.
  • Grace Berger — Second-year guard, drafted with the No. 7 pick out of Indiana. Berger was a member of the 2021 FIBA Women’s AmeriCup Team that won gold.
  • Rae Burrell — Los Angeles Sparks third-year guard, drafted with the No. 9 pick out of Tennessee. Burrell was a 5-on-5 participant for the 2021 USA Women’s AmeriCup Team trials.
  • Emily Engstler — Washington Mystics third-year forward, drafted with the No. 4 pick out of Louisville. Engstler won a gold medal at the 2022 FIBA 3×3 U23 World Cup.
  • Natasha Howard — Dallas Wings veteran forward, just completed her 10th WNBA season. Howard has competed in multiple 5-on-5 training camps.
  • Abbey Hsu — Columbia University standout guard drafted with the No. 34 pick by the Connecticut Sun. Hsu was on the silver medal USA squad at the 2023 FIBA Women’s AmeriCup.
  • Taylor Mikesell — Second-year guard drafted No. 13 out of Ohio State. Mikesell has won a silver (2019 Pan American Games) and bronze (2016 FIBA U17 World Cup) in 5-on-5.
  • Alissa Pili — Minnesota Lynx rookie forward drafted No. 8 out of Utah. Pili participated in the 2023 USA Basketball 3×3 Nationals.
  • Jaylyn Sherrod — New York Liberty rookie guard, undrafted out of Colorado
  • Maddy Siegrist — Dallas Wings second-year forward, drafted No. 3 out of Villanova. Siegrist was a member of the 2022 USA 3×3 U23 Nations League Team that won the Americas conference.
  • Azurá Stevens — Los Angeles Sparks forward, drafted No. 6 out of the University of Connecticut. Stevens won a gold medal with the 2023 Pan American Games 3×3 Team.
  • Sug Sutton — Washington Mystics guard, drafted No. 36 out of Texas. Sutton won a 5-on-5 silver medal with the 2017 FIBA U19 World Cup Team.
  • Brittney Sykes — Washington Mystics veteran guard, drafted No. 7 out of Syracuse. Sykes has a 5-on-5 gold medal with the 2019 FIBA Women’s AmeriCup Team

The Mystics are most heavily represented in the 3×3 developmental camp, boasting 4 players, while the Sparks have two. Mikesell and Hsu are the only two players not currently in the WNBA.

The 2024 Olympic women’s basketball 3×3 team was made up of Hailey Van Lith, Rhyne Howard, Dearica Hamby, and Cierra Burdick. That group, which was initially meant to include Cameron Brink before she tore her ACL, finished with a bronze medal.

This year’s camp will be led by Sydney Johnson, who has worked with USA Basketball since 2020 and was most recently an assistant coach on the Chicago Sky.
