All athletes are a little off, but NHL players are certifiable. Only someone who smacks people around on ice while wearing knives strapped to their feet would think that the best move when entering a hockey fight would be to throw a damn Superman punch.

Simon Benoit of the Maple Leafs got into with Michael Kesselring of Utah on Monday night and things went wild immediately. Rather than simply putting up his dukes, Benoit took to the sky to punch Kesselring in the head — which is a bold move in a sport where players are wearing helmets.
It’s tough to say if anyone really won this fight. Kesselring got in the best clean hits, but Benoit ended up on top of him on the ground in the end.
Naturally punching someone in a hockey helmet is not a good idea, and Benoit learned this the hard way by dislocating his own thumb in the exchange. Then it was off to the penalty box to be his own doctor.
