The Mavericks new hype song censored Luka Doncic like he’s in witness protection

What are we doing here?

It’s one of the most brazenly stupid things a sports franchise has done in a long time. On Friday the Mavericks unveiled a new hype song titled “We Mavericks,” and it doesn’t take long before things get very, very weird.

Evidently the Mavericks couldn’t find enough clips of the team that didn’t involve Luka, so they had a choice to do one of three things:

  1. Focus exclusively on clips of other players
  2. Just leave him in, because even though it hurts — Doncic is still a part of the team’s history
  3. Black him out like he’s in witness protection and slap a Mavs logo over his head.

Guess which Dallas went for?

To be fair, other players no longer on the team are edited out as well — but this was clearly a decision that was brought about by the Doncic trade. Mavericks fans are still fuming over the deal that took away the team’s brightest young star, and no amount of editing him out or trying to pretend he doesn’t exist will change that.

The whole thing just reeks of complete insecurity by Dallas. This wasn’t a player who did them dirty, or brought shame on the organization. He was their top player who was traded by their GM — and you don’t simple edit that out because you’re trying to make people forget.

The Dallas Mavericks are a dumpster fire.
