Zach Edey looks like an adult on a Nerf hoop casually dunking while standing

This is wild.

It was a good night for Zach Edey. Not only did the Grizzlies rookie dazzle with a double-double performance in his Summer League debut, but he warmed up for it by casually dunking like it was nothing — while his toes were still on the floor.

This is a legit two-handed dunk with as much enthusiasm as someone waiting for the train to commute home from work. It’s just so effortless for him, and it’s no wonder why when you’re 7’4 and over 300 pounds.

In many ways Edey is a great litmus test for the future of NBA big men. One of the most prolific players in NCAA history, Edey didn’t manage to go Top 5 in a weak NBA Draft over concerns about his athleticism and whether he could stretch the floor. Modern basketball has prioritized perimeter shooting and quickness over everything else, but Memphis are banking on a throwback big-man to be their secret weapon in a push to go deep in the NBA Playoffs.

Time will tell if they got this one right, but so far Edey is looking like a special player.
