Best quotes from Day 1 of the women’s golf competition at the 2024 Olympics
“Oh, it’s fantastic. Yeah, it’s one of the best golf courses that we play all year, for sure. And the pins were tough today, actually. I was quite surprised. But the weather wasn’t too bad, so it was good.”
— Georgia Hall, Team Great Britain on Le Golf National
“I was just getting to like imposter syndrome a little bit. I was like, how am I here right now? But it’s okay. I’m going to try my best and hopefully can get better… But I’ll find my way out. I always do.”
— Lilia Vu, Team USA, on her warm-up for Round 1 and fighting those negative thoughts.
“So amazing. I was here on Sunday and saw the men’s crowds. It was in the final round, and I thought that was beyond incredible. So, I wasn’t necessarily expecting that for us. But even early this morning, teeing off — 1 was surrounded. It was just an incredible vibe. It’s so cool that women’s golf is so popular in this event here this week. It’s pretty exciting for the game.”
— Brooke Henderson, Team Canada on the Olympic golf atmosphere.
“It did match what I thought. I was able to play this golf course two years ago in competition at the World Amateur. I think because it’s the same golf course, it also played very difficult. Obviously, it’s an amateur event, but all in all, I think they both played equally difficult.
Q. How did you do that week?
“I played well. I think I won.”
— Rose Zhang on Le Golf National’s matching in difficulty from 2022 World Amateurs to the 2024 Olympics.
