Williams announced Friday that the American driver will be back for the 2024 campaign

The one remaining question for the 2024 Formula 1 season has now been answered.

Logan Sargeant will be back at Williams for next year.

As the 2023 F1 season wound down, just one spot on the grid remained for the 2024 campaign: The second seat at Williams alongside Alexander Albon. Sargeant, a rookie for the 2023 season driving on a one-year contract, had yet to be given that spot for the 2024 season. As the year drew to a close, Williams Team Principal James Vowles continued to back Sargeant, giving him multiple votes of confidence, but Vowles also indicated that there were goal the driver needed to hit in order to lock down that spot for next year.

He must have hit those, as the team made it official on Friday, announcing that Sargeant would be back for 2024:

“I am pleased to continue our journey with Logan into the 2024 season,” Vowles commented. “Logan has demonstrated immense skill whilst under the pressure of the world stage, making him a perfect fit for our team. We have great confidence in his abilities and believe that together we can achieve even greater success in the upcoming season.”

Sargeant indicated that he was “thrilled” with the news.

“I am thrilled to be continuing with Williams Racing for the 2024 season,” said the driver.

“It has been an incredible journey with the team so far, and I am grateful for the opportunity to continue developing as a driver within such a talented and dedicated group. We have exciting plans for the future, and I can’t wait to contribute to the team’s success in the coming year.”

Williams teased the announcement early on Friday, instructing readers on social media to “check the bio.” In their updated bio on Twitter/X, this is what social media users found:

The writing was on the wall for this move, however. Sargeant turned in a tremendous performance during qualifying for the Las Vegas Grand Prix, putting his FW45 into Q3, and on the third row alongside Albon.

Following qualifying, Vowles had some words of encouragement for his rookie driver: “Really well done Logan, that’s how you build a weekend up. You were on equal footing, and you performed. Good job,” said Vowles to Sargeant the moment the rookie was informed of his result.

Then following the race, which did not go his way, Vowles hinted that the team would have all winter to work with the American driver.

Now it is official.
