This kid rules.
No parent wants to be a disappointment to their kids, and when it comes to a home run flying in your direction there’s an innate dad gene that says “I must catch this to make my child proud.” Unfortunately that went wrong on Sunday when Bryce Harper crushed one into the seats.
In a brutally cruel twist, ESPN sent Buster Olney into the stands to interview the dad after missing the catch, again highlighting his flub in front of millions of people. The real MVP of the exchange was the son, who stuck up for his pops even though he missed the catch.
“It was good. He tried.”
You can just tell this guy was really in his feels over it. He so wanted to catch this ball for his son and give him a souvenir, but it really was a tough catch without a glove and reaching over his kid’s head to make the catch.
In the end though, a single baseball doesn’t really matter. This kid sticking up for his dad was everything. The Phillies should definitely give them some free merch though.
