The Dallas defensive back set a new NFL record on Thanksgiving Day
Dallas Cowboys defensive back DaRon Bland is enjoying an incredible 2023 NFL season.
One that now includes a new NFL record.
In the fourth quarter of the Cowboys’ Thanksgiving Day game against the Washington Commanders, Bland stepped in front of a Sam Howell pass intended for Jahan Dotson. After securing the interception the CB made a few would-be tacklers — including Howell — miss.
63 yards later Bland had his fifth Pick-Six of the season, a new NFL record.
Jim Nantz, on the call for CBS Sports, knew as soon as Bland stepped in front of the throw that the Cowboys defensive back had a shot at history:
Bland notched his fourth Pick-Six of the season just a few days ago against the Carolina Panthers, when he intercepted rookie quarterback Bryce Young early in the fourth quarter and returned it for a touchdown. That play not only ended any chance of a Panthers comeback, but pulled Bland level with Eric Allen, Jim Kearney, and Ken Houston with four Pick-Sixes on the season.
Now, the Cowboys defensive back stands alone with five.
However, has six more games to extend his new record. At this rate, it would not be surprising to see him notch one or two more before the season is over.
