Baker Mayfield injures ankle, returns to game after missed play

Jadeveon Clowney accidentally stepped on the ankle of Bucs quarterback Baker Mayfield. We break down the injury devleopments.

6:32 p.m. update: Mayfield returned to game and proceeded to get picked off on his first pass attempt back on the field.


The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are in a tough Week 13 fight against the Carolina Panthers, and they might have to figure out how to win the game without quarterback Baker Mayfield. Panthers edge rusher Jadeveon Clowney was engaged with a blocker and stepped on Mayfield’s ankle. This came after Mayfield was pulled down backwards in aggressive fashion.

Mayfield had completed 10 of 20 passes for 121 yards with one touchdown and one interception. He had been sacked three times. Kyle Trask is Mayfield’s backup and has entered the game.
