Chris Paul’s sad NBA free agency announcements keep coming

At least it’s not next to a trash can this time?

Age catches up to us all, and never has that felt more prevalent in the NBA than watching Chris Paul get the most pathetic introductory announcements in basketball. While DeMar DeRozan was being introduced to a heroes welcome in Sacramento, CP3 got this.

There is so much to appreciate in this sad-ass announcement. Firstly it’s coming at 5:30 p.m. on the Sunday of a holiday weekend. Then there’s the fact nobody was around to photograph Paul in a Spurs uniform, or even bother photoshopping him in one.

It just keeps getting better with the photo from his 2023 media day, hastily thrown on a grey background with a drop shadow that makes it look like a trading card from 1994. Finally there’s the “Welcome to San Antonio” graphic, which feels like a default template in a version of Microsoft Powerpoint on Windows 95.

There was a time that signing Chris Paul would be a huge deal and lead to a massive celebration. Now the dude can’t even get a decent social media graphic. Despite all this it’s still somehow better than when the Warriors photographed him next to a trash can.

Unfortunately CP3 has been officially downgraded to CP2.
