Morikawa jumped up the leaderboard on Moving Day at The Masters and will be the latest to take on Scottie Scheffler.
Collin Morikawa made the most of Moving Day as he will be paired with Scottie Scheffler in the final grouping for Championship Sunday at The Masters.
Morikawa is the only player in the field to shoot under par all three days of play. The two-time major winner is currently the No. 20 player in the world but hasn’t finished inside the top 20 since his T19 at the Genesis Invitational.
Meanwhile, the man he is playing with is the hottest golfer on the planet. But playing against Scheffler on Sunday makes no difference to him.
“Look, Scottie is the No. 1 player in the world for a reason, and what he’s done over the past few years is incredible,” Morikawa said. “But at the end of the day, it doesn’t scare me.”
The former Cal-Berkeley golfer may not be scared of going up against Scheffler but is aware of what it will take to beat him.
“I still know that at my best and at what I truly believe I can do — I saw a little glimpse of that early on today. And just didn’t hit the shots I needed to,” he said. “Didn’t make the putts on the back nine, or else I would be even with him or 1-up. It happens. It’s golf. I’ve got 18 more holes to figure it out and hopefully, you know, play some great golf.”
The 27-year-old burst onto the scene in 2019 and quickly became known as one of the best ball strikers on Tour. When he is performing well, Morikawa is hard to beat. However, it’s been a while since we have seen him at his best.
Morikawa has been quiet since his 2021 Open title despite winning the ZoZo Championship last October. That tournament reminded the golf world just how good he is. Last year, he had two runner-up finishes, seven top-10s, and 12 top-25s.
Some of his best golf last year came at the majors, with a T10 at Augusta, a T26 at Oak Hill for the PGA Championship and a T14 at the U.S. Open at Los Angeles Country Club. He missed the cut at Royal Liverpool for The Open.
The last time he won a major championship was at the 2021 Open Championship.

He and Scheffler tee off at 2:35 p.m. ET for the final round of The Masters Tournament.
