Dan Campbell called his shot

After clinching their first division title since 1993, the Lions shared Dan Campbell’s preseason message to the team

With their win Sunday over the Minnesota Vikings, the Detroit Lions accomplished something they have ever done in franchise history.

Secured an NFC North title.

The Lions last won their division back in 1993, when they were members of the NFC Central, before the league expanded to the current four-division format. Detroit lived up to some lofty preseason expectations in the process, including a message from head coach Dan Campbell to the team ahead of their Week 1 game against the Kansas City Chiefs.

The Lions shared Campbell’s speech to the team ahead of that Week 1 meeting on social media following their win over the Vikings, and as part of his message, Campbell directed the team to look at the back wall of their Team Auditorium. On that wall some of their “recent” accomplishments were listed, such as their last division title back in 1993, and their last playoff win, which came in 1992.

However, Campbell promised the team that they were going to “build their legacy,” and put together a season they would never forget:

As things stand right now, the Lions are currently second in the conference, and with their division title they have secured at least one playoff game at home. But Campbell promised even bigger things ahead of the season, and given how the year has already played out for Detroit, bigger things certainly seem possible.
