Darnell Mooney dropped Bears perfect Hail Mary pass to seal loss to Browns

You can’t draw up a Hail Mary any better than this. Darnell Mooney just dropped it.

The Chicago Bears had one last chance to save their season on the final play of the game against the Cleveland Browns. Down by three points with the ball on the Cleveland 45-yard-line, Bears quarterback Justin Fields launched a Hail Mary pass into the end zone.

The ball was tipped and landed right into the hands of Chicago wide receiver Darnell Mooney. Somehow, Mooney dropped it.

The Browns beat the Bears, 20-17, on a wild ending that almost saw Chicago make an amazing comeback. You can’t draw up a Hail Mary pass any better. All Mooney had to do was make an easy catch, but he couldn’t hold on. Watch the video here:

The Browns move to 9-5 with the win, and are now in prime playoff position. The Bears fall to 5-9. Chicago seemingly had to win out to make the playoffs, and that dream is over.

Joe Flacco led the Browns to a come-from-behind victory by leading an eight-play, 63-yard field goal drive to take the lead with under one minute left. Fields led Chicago down the field with a couple big throws, but the Bears couldn’t get the miracle they needed.

Mooney had a rough game all afternoon, missing a key block, failing to fight for passes, and finishing with only two catches for 14 yards.

The ball was in his hands! Mooney is going to be thinking about that drop for a long time.
