Coach Prime isn’t shying away from attention.

While the majority of attention is on the College Football Playoff and the committee’s decision to leave out Florida State, former alumni Deion Sanders is looking ahead to the transfer portal and next year.

Sanders was grinning ear-to-ear on Good Morning America Tuesday when he explained that his team lacked consistency this season, but the transfer portal opening is his opportunity to bring new talent to Colorado.

“It was tough. But we really went out there and instilled hope … We just could not be consistent with where we are and what we had in the kitchen.”@DeionSanders talks about @CUBuffsFootball‘s performance this season and says he’s “excited” for next season. #CoachPrime pic.twitter.com/dUvJESh6Hk

A lot can be said about Sanders’ approach to coaching, but there’s no doubt he is the greatest marketer and hype man in the game when it comes to a coach selling elite athletes on his program. Despite finishing 4-8 this year, last place in the PAC-12 — Colorado already boasts the No. 29 upcoming class in the country, higher than numerous teams which finished the season ranked like Missouri, Louisville, Iowa and Oregon State.

Coach Prime isn’t resting on the laurels of recruiting well — he wants to win it all. Appearing on The Dan LeBatard Show with Stugotz he went so far as to promise an appearance in the College Football Playoff in 2024-25.

“I want those problems, give me those problems,” Prime said on LeBatard of the tough decisions of leaving programs like Texas out. “Leaving out a Florida State and a Georgia, that’s why I’m glad it’s increased next year, and guess who is going to be in?”

Sanders went on to explain that while Colorado’s season looks disappointing on paper, he chalks it up to a lot of close losses. He reiterated that his team truly only suffered two bas losses (to Oregon and Washington State), with the majority being one-score games that he had key players injured for. It’s bold to make a playoff proclamation this early, but Deion truly believes that with those players back and some more talent entering through the portal that the Buffaloes can make the Top 10 run needed to guarantee their spot in next year’s tournament.

Coach Prime also had a message for any star athlete looking for a new home.

“I am in the portal like like I’m not hard to find, I’m not hard to find and guess what I’m finding, lineman! You guys watched us play what did you say, if they had some of those guys, they would be right there guess what today is—portal day and I’m going get those things you said I need.”

There’s no eating humble pie for Deion Sanders. He’s ready to jump right back in and get his train rolling again.
