Ahead of the Grant Thornton Invitational, Jason Day vocalized his thoughts on Jon Rahm’s move to LIV Golf.
Jon Rahm is heading to LIV Golf. It’s a shocking development, as the reigning Masters champion is ditching the PGA Tour and taking the bag instead.
Fellow long-time PGA Tour player Jason Day weighed in on the news without throwing a dagger at the Spaniard.
Ahead of the Grant Thornton Invitational in Naples, Fla., where Day is paired with Lydia Ko, the former No. 1 player dropped the mic.
“I think when guys get thrown money at them, everyone’s got a number in the end,” Day said. “I hope he makes the right decision by him and his family. It doesn’t matter to me. If he leaves, it makes my job easier because I don’t have to compete against him. I want him to be happy. That’s all that matters in the end.”

The Aussie has never publicly judged those who left for LIV Golf. Last December, he was cool with them, and that opinion hasn’t changed.
He has made over $57 million on the PGA Tour and amassed 13 career wins since turning pro in 2006.
“I still struggle to watch LIV,” Day said. “I do like some of the concepts they have. They haven’t quite nailed the format or the true excitement of what they’re trying to accomplish.”
Day and Adrian Meronk were names linked to departure rumors recently. Meronk then posted his 2024 PGA Tour card to social media, squashing those rumors. It doesn’t seem the hefty Saudi-backed PIF wallet can persuade the 2015 PGA Championship winner either.
“It’s still not for me,” he said. “I know there’s rumors about me going. They’re totally false. I don’t know where these rumors start… I haven’t had any connection to LIV.”
Despite LIV’s massive success down under and having multiple ties to Day’s native land, it hasn’t mattered — he still isn’t interested in leaving the PGA Tour.
