In a statement on social media, Susie Wolff makes it clear that the events of the week are not over
Susie Wolff, the Managing Director of the F1 Academy, and her husband Toto Wolff, the Mercedes F1 Team Principal, were reportedly the subjects of a compliance investigation by the FIA this week. According to reporting, as well as an earlier statement from the FIA, there were allegations regarding the sharing of confidential information between an F1 team boss, and a member of Formula One Management (FOM).
While the FIA closed the matter on Thursday, issuing a statement that no ongoing investigations were underway, and that there would be no disciplinary actions, the matter is certainly not settled from the Wolffs’ perspective.
The Mercedes Team Principal issued a statement, outlining how the team is reserving all legal rights regarding the matter. As for the F1 Academy boss, Susie Wolff is blasting the situation, wondering “[i]s that all?” after the reported investigation was quickly dropped:
Susie Wolff refers to the “unified support of the Formula One teams,” who on Wednesday released nearly identical statement both denying that they were behind tipping off the FIA in the matter, and throwing their support behind both the F1 Academy, and Wolff as its Managing Director.
When the FIA released their initial statement regarding a compliance investigation, the F1 Academy boss indicated that she was “insulted, but sadly unsurprised” by the public allegations,” noting that her integrity had been questioned in a way rooted in “intimidatory and misogynistic behaviour, and focused on my marital status rather than my abilities:”
Which, frankly, reads as an absolutely accurate interpretation of the situation.
Between this statement, and the corresponding statement from Mercedes boss Toto Wolff, you can be sure this matter is certainly not closed.
