Jason Day’s scripting for the U.S. Open shows Malbon Golf aims to be the main character at another major championship.

Welcome to Playing Through’s new morning ritual — Golf Talk Today.

Each morning will feature a Golf Talk Today, where the crew will discuss various elements throughout the PGA Tour, LPGA, LIV Golf, and more.

In this fifth installment, let’s discuss more U.S. Open prep but also golf fashion and the incredible partnership between Jason Day and Malbon Golf. Major championships usually mean brands like to go all out on the fashion and equipment fronts.

So brew a pot of coffee, grab some breakfast, and settle in as we discuss the top stories in professional golf.

Jason Day’s 2024 U.S. Open clothing scripting

Since Day left Nike for Malbon Golf at the start of the year, his clothing choices have been one of the biggest storylines. From his viral vest at the Masters to what kind of pants he wears each week, people involved in golf love to talk about it.

For the U.S. Open, Malbon has him in new clothing for one of the brand’s upcoming releases.

Fans have already begun to troll the brand for Friday’s jacket. Granted, it is the middle of summer, so why Day would need a coat that looks heavy is a unique choice, but that is the point.

Since the Sentry, fans have given Malbon Golf so much free advertising by simply disliking Day’s clothing. All the ones who do not like it are a crowd that does.

With the boldness of the scripting, it seems like Malbon has done it again. They will be one of the week’s biggest storylines for simply what they put Day in, and it is such a genius move.

Best quotes from Tuesday at The U.S. Open

“I’m not thinking about my wins anymore. All I’m focused on is this week and getting ready to play. Just because I won last week doesn’t give me any shots against the field this week. We all start even par, and the field is level again starting on Thursday. Last week doesn’t really matter,” Scottie Scheffler said.

“It’s neat for him to see the guys that he watches on TV and YouTube and TikTok, whatever the hell it is that they do. At home, he’s with JT and Rick a lot. But to see other guys hit the golf ball, it doesn’t really do it justice until you actually see it in person,” Tiger Woods said about his son, who enjoys Golf on YouTube.
