Ja Morant’s season is over thanks to shoulder surgery.

Ja Morant is out for the season after suffering a torn labrum in his right shoulder, the Memphis Grizzlies announced. Morant suffered the injury on Saturday at practice following the Grizzlies win over the Los Angeles Lakers on Friday night.

Morant suffered a subluxation of his right shoulder during a training session on Saturday. He continued to have soreness until the MRI revealed a torn labrum.

Morant was suspension for the first 25 games of this season. The Grizzlies became one of the worst teams in the NBA without him (Memphis has also been without big men Steven Adams and Brandon Clarke all season). The Grizzlies went 6-3 in nine games with Morant since he returned from suspension. The All-Star guard averaged 25.1 points, 8.1 assists, and 5.6 rebounds per game this year before the season-ending injury.

The Grizzlies are 13-23 overall this season at the time of Morant’s injury. If the season ended today, Memphis would have the No. 6 odds heading into the 2024 NBA Draft lottery.
