Jon Rahm, who won The Sentry last year, was spotted this week hanging out in Maui, which produced hysterical reactions.
Jon Rahm is in the Hawaiian islands this week, where many marquee PGA Tour players have traditionally begun their seasons.
He did so last year.
He started off his 2023 season by roaring past Collin Morikawa during the final round of The Sentry, claiming his first of four victories on the year.
But Rahm is not playing this time around, thanks to his decision to join LIV Golf on Dec. 7.
And yet, he is vacationing in Maui this week, according to Doug Ferguson of the Associated Press. The Plantation Course at Kapalua, which hosts The Sentry each year, lies on the northwestern end of Maui.
The tournament has historically been one of the bigger ones of the season, as it features all of the players who won a tournament during the previous calendar year. The field also includes the top 50 finishers from the prior season’s FedEx Cup rankings.
Several top players have bumped into Rahm, with Ferguson reporting that those interactions have been “somewhere between cordial and chilly.”
And yet, the interactions online about this development have been nothing short of hilarious.
Consider this post from No Laying Up, which hysterically referenced Forgetting Sarah Marshall:
And then, someone made it better by adding Rahm’s face over actor Jason Segel’s:
But these were not the only reactions that gave us a laugh. Check some of these out:
And since we just experienced the Holidays, Claire Rogers of Golf.com drew an analogy to a comedic holiday film, Four Christmases:
