Masters: Jason Day confirms Augusta National wardrobe fashion request

Following Day’s third round at The Masters, the Aussie addressed his wardrobe change from the day prior.

Jason Day has been one of the highlights of the 88th Masters Tournament this week. Unfortunately, it has not necessarily been because of his play at Augusta National, but his wardrobe choices.

During Thursday’s opening round, Day was rocking some of the baggiest pants you will ever see on a golf course. It had fans making callbacks to MC Hammer.

His first round was cut short due to inclement weather forcing tee times to be pushed back. So he came out to finish his first round early Friday morning wearing a vest straight out of the 1980s.

Jason Day’s new apparel deal with Malbon Golf has been one of the key talking points at #TheMasters so far.

He’s also the talk of the town, too.

However, fans noticed that when he came back out shortly thereafter to kick off his second round, that vest was missing.

Following his third round, Day addressed the wardrobe change and confirmed suspicions.

“They asked me to take it off — the vest off yesterday,” said Day.

“Respectfully, you do that because it’s all about the tournament here, and I understand that. I respect the tournament.”

The Aussie had another tough day on the course at Augusta.

He carded a 4-over 76, dropping him to 8-over for the tournament and into a tie for 45th.

Day, however, is hardly the only player to post big numbers this week. The windy conditions with gusts ranging anywhere from 15 to 45 miles per hour all week have wreaked havoc.

Therefore, much of Day’s post-round talk surrounded his fashion choices.

Of course, ever since signing with the up-and-coming Malbon Golf brand, golf fashion has taken on a life of its own.

Day was pressed on whether Augusta National gave a reason for requesting the wardrobe change.

“I don’t know. I didn’t ask. They said, can you take it off? I said, yeah, no worries… It came from Augusta National.”

If there is one environment in the sport of golf where that should not be a surprise, it would be here.
