The NIT tips off on Tuesday night with seven games crammed into a four hour period. This year’s field is pretty fascinating, with SMU currently being the odds-on favorite to cut down the nets when it’s all said and done.
A move to the ACC has transformed the SMU basketball program, which is already making serious headway in major athletics. The Mustangs finished higher in the standings than North Carolina who made the NCAA Tournament, and that makes them a fascinating team to watch.
If you’re looking for a sleeper then North Texas shouldn’t be overlooked. Boasting a 24-8 record this season, they were a snub from the major tournament, but are precisely the kind of team who can make noise in the NIT.
