The break-ins occurred around the Chiefs’ Week 5 matchup against the New Orleans Saints.
The Chiefs beat the New Orleans Saints in Week 5, but quarterback Patrick Mahomes and tight end Travis Kelce both lost when each of their Kansas City-area homes were burglarized that weekend.
“Obviously it’s frustrating, disappointing,” Mahomes said while speaking to media Wednesday regarding the break-in. “But I can’t get into too many of the details because the investigation is still ongoing.”
Kelce’s Leawood, Kansas, house was broken into on game day, around 7:30 p.m. local time during Monday Night Football. The police report indicates that the thief or thieves did approximately $1,000 in damage to the back door of the home and that they escaped with about $20k in cash.
This does raise a few questions for me, a person who does not have NFL player money, particularly not the kind that stuffs Kelce and Mahomes’ pockets. Do they not have alarm systems? Do they not live in gated communities? How are randos even finding out where they live to break into their houses?
Kelce’s girlfriend, Taylor Swift, was in attendance at the Monday night game and presumably returned to Kelce’s home with him after the robbery. Mahomes and his wife Brittany have small children. Thankfully nobody at the Mahomes or Kelce houses was harmed in any way during these burglaries.
