McIlroy dropped the mic on Henrik Stenson after he commented on social media about changing Ryder Cup rules.
Rory McIlroy is enjoying Twitter these days. From his long rant about the golf ball rollback to his latest comments, the Northern Irishman is getting the hang of it.
On Saturday night, the four-time major champion responded to a tweet that asked him about Henrik Stenson and the Ryder Cup.
Twitter user Lou Stanger quote tweeted a golf article tagging McIlroy.
“I wonder if @McIlroy Rory also wants to change the rules so Stenson can captain the team,” Stagner wrote.
McIlroy did not hold back with his response, and it’s wild that he actually tweeted these words.
The best thing to happen to the 2023 Euro Ryder cup team was Henrik going to LIV!

“The best thing to happen to the 2023 Euro Ryder cup team was Henrik going to LIV,” McIlroy wrote.
People are used to McIlroy being pretty subdued on social media. While he generally speaks openly and honestly, this tweet took it to another level. He flat-out threw Stenson under the proverbial bus.
When Rahm joined LIV Thursday, McIlroy commented that he wanted to change the Ryder Cup rules so the reigning Masters champion could be a part of the team at Bethpage Black in 2025.
Currently, members of the LIV tour are banned from playing or taking part on the European side of the Ryder Cup.
Stenson lost his captaincy to Luke Donald because he chose to leave for LIV Golf. Clearly, it was addition by subtraction as Donald led Team Europe to a massive 16.5 to 11.5 victory over the Americans. The Euros will also bring Donald back for 2025.
For McIlroy to be this bold, there has to be some kind of bad blood there. Regardless, McIlroy dropped the mic and left the building. Since he resigned from the PGA Tour Policy Board, maybe the world will see a more blunt version of him.
