The rapper helped carry the torch before Friday’s opening ceremony in Paris.
Thankfully, he didn’t “drop it like it’s hot.”
Snoop Dogg successfully has served as one of the torch bearers for the Olympic flame. On Friday morning, he carried it through the suburb of St. Denis ahead of the opening ceremony for the 2024 Summer Games in Paris.
The rapper being asked to participate in the event did not entirely come out of left field. Not only is he a superstar musician who has long had an affinity for the world of sports, he also will be part of NBC’s Olympic Games coverage this summer.
Oh, and the torch they gave him looked like a giant blunt. We can neither confirm nor deny that that played a role in his selection as well.
Look at the man. You can see he has experience carrying objects in the shape of that particular torch.
Based on a design by Mathieu Lehanneur, a total of 2,000 torches were manufactured. According to its description the torch design, “with its curves and rounded lines, is suffused with gentleness [and] conveys generosity and solidarity.”
That… well, that could also be used to describe an upper-class blunt rotation. But we digress. Back to Snoop Dogg.
“I look at this as a prestigious honor and something I truly respect. I would have never dreamed of nothing like this,” the 52-year-old said in an interview earlier this week. “I’m going to be on my best behavior. I’m going to be on my best athleticism. I’ll be able to breathe slow to walk fast and hold the torch with a smile on my face, because I realize how prestigious this event is.”
The torch rally traditionally starts in the Greek town of Olympia and takes several weeks before ending in the designated host city. On Friday, it will be used to light the Olympic flame at the opening ceremony in the Paris city center.
We will see if the as-of-yet-to-be-unveiled cauldron will look like an ashtray.
