Hockey has given us the first chicken nugget related penalty in sports

Nugget penalty!

There have been countless reasons players have been penalized over the years, but an ECHL game has gifted the universe with the first penalty caused by chicken nugget.

Something gets thrown onto ice — at a morning kids game in Toledo — and Kirill Tyutyayev shoots it back into crowd. Gets a 10-minute misconduct. Gonna be interesting to see if league gives supplemental discipline. It’s pretty vanilla, but they don’t like shooting into stands. pic.twitter.com/ci1cd4kilw

With just under 10 minutes left in the second period between the Toledo Walleyes and Kalamazoo Wings a small, puck-shaped projectile was launched onto the ice by someone in the stands during a faceoff. Kirill Tyutyayev, a 23-year-old prospect for the Red Wings decided to shoot the object into the stands and was assessed a 10-minute penalty for game misconduct.

Obviously shooting an object into the stands is frowned upon, because someone could have been injured — but upon closer observation it was found to be a chicken nugget.

Only in the ECHL. Walleye F Kirill Tyutyayev was issued a 10-minute game misconduct in the second period for flipping a chicken nugget back into the crowd. One of the kids had tossed it on to the ice. Toots decided to take care of it himself.

First of all: It’s adorable that this man’s nickname is “Toots.” Secondly, CHICKEN NUGGET PENALTY! I don’t have any inside information of the vast history of sports penalties to look up every penalty ever committed, but I think it’s safe to assume that this is the first time a chicken nugget has resulted in a player being assessed with a game misconduct charge.

This is just a missed marketing opportunity. Every week fans could line up and have chicken nuggets blasted at their face hole with a slap shot. If you catch the nugget you get free chicken for life.
