The PGA Tour returns to TPC Scottsdale, where thousands of raucous fans will cheer on their favorite players. Here are the odds and our picks.
After a tremendous week at Pebble Beach, the PGA Tour hopes to sustain its momentum with the always-entertaining WM Phoenix Open. Twenty-nine of the top 50 players in the Official World Golf Rankings are teeing it up this week, including World No. 1 Scottie Scheffler, who heads to Phoenix after making his PGA Tour season debut last week in Monterrey.
Scheffler is making his sixth career start at TPC Scottsdale, having won at the Tom Weiskopf and Jay Morrish layout in both 2022 and 2023. Last year, Scheffler tied for third, narrowly missing out on the epic playoff between Nick Taylor and Charley Hoffman. Taylor went on a tear down the stretch to eclipse the 47-year-old American on the second extra hole.
Other players in the top 10 of the Official World Golf Rankings include World No. 5 Hideki Matsuyama, who began the season with a record-breaking win at The Sentry, and 2023 U.S. Open Champion Wyndham Clark, who is currently seventh. Matsuyama, like Scheffler, has won the WM Phoenix Open twice, also winning back-to-back years in 2016 and 2017.
Justin Thomas, meanwhile, arrives in Scottsdale with the second-lowest odds behind Scheffler, a testament to his solid start to the 2025 season. He posted a solo second at The American Express but did have his fair share of struggles at Pebble Beach on Saturday, posting a 2-over 74 in the wind and rain. He ultimately tied for 48th, but he has had mixed results at Pebble Beach. On the flip side, Thomas has had plenty of success at TPC Scottsdale, recording four top 10s in 10 career starts. He finished in solo fourth in 2023 and has made seven consecutive cuts.

The 2025 PGA Tour season has had an interesting trend thus far: all five tournaments contested already have been won by players who already had multiple PGA Tour wins.
I believe that continues this week. Like Nick Taylor at Wailae and Harris English at Torrey Pines, Si Woo Kim will pick up the fifth win of his PGA Tour career at the WM Phoenix Open. The 29-year-old South Korean missed the cut in two of his first four starts to begin the year, with his best finish being a T-32 at The Sentry. But Kim showed flashes of brilliance last week at Pebble Beach, tying for 12th and posting a bogey-free 67 in the final round. What gives me hope about Kim is that he gained 2.55 strokes on Pebble’s small and undulating greens, a part of his game that he has notoriously struggled with over the years.
It’s also worth noting that he ranked 14th in strokes gained from tee-to-green last year on the PGA Tour. He has tremendous control of his golf ball, but his putting is always the difference between whether he can contend or not. But Kim gets the job done this week since his putter is trending in the right direction, and he has posted under-par scores in 11 of his last 12 rounds at TPC Scottsdale, including all four last year.

Last week, I went with Scottie Scheffler to win at Pebble Beach, and although he came up short of Rory McIlroy, I wasn’t as far off as the scoreboard would suggest.
It was the Waste Management a few years ago when Scottie sort of announced himself, and I am taking that to happen again. This is another big week for the PGA Tour, and Scottie is the biggest show in town right now.
Boom.

Well, Jack was kind enough to invite me back this week. I guess my debut was not too bad, as Collin Morikawa finished tied for 17th at Pebble Beach, so I’ve earned another shot at this.
Let’s go wildly off the board a bit, as my two dear friends have gone with a bit of chalk.
At first blush, J.J. Spaun might not be the wisest pick, and he missed the cut at this event last year. But he has found his form as of late, finishing third at the Sony Open in Hawaii and 15th at the Farmers Insurance Open. He has also played well at this event in the past, with a career-best T4 at the 2017 WM Phoenix Open. Add in his recent accurate play, and I think he’s got a real shot this week.
