Angel Reese’s heartfelt WNBA All-Star selection reaction will make you a fan

Angel Reese is a rookie All-Star in the WNBA, and her reaction to the news was priceless.

Chicago Sky forward Angel Reese is in the midst of a historic rookie season. She leads the WNBA in rebounds and is the current record holder for most consecutive double-doubles with 11 (and counting). Reese entered the W with doubts about her game would translate to the pros after a tremendous college career at LSU. The 6’3 forward doesn’t space the floor or take three-pointers. Still, Reese has found a way to become a WNBA star on her own terms, and on Wednesday she was rewarded for it.

After the Sky beat the Atlanta Dream, 85-77, on Tuesday night, head coach Teresa Weatherspoon had some special news for the team in the post-game locker room. Reese had been named a WNBA All-Star as a rookie. The forward was overwhelmed by emotion, and her reaction was priceless.

Reese spoke about her All-Star selection after the game, and it makes you want to be a fan of her even more.

I’m just so happy. … It’s just a blessing. I can’t thank my teammates and my coaches enough for just believing in me.

After being drafted seventh overall behind other forwards, many believed that Reese’s game wouldn’t translate well to the WNBA, especially with fellow rookie big Kamilla Cardoso occupying somewhat of the same areas offensively. Yet, her rebounding has translated more than anything, and her offensive game continues to expand. She’s been one of the reasons the WNBA has continued to grow in coverage and support this year, and her high level of play has given her the chance to become an idol for younger girls who watch the WNBA.

The rookies that entered the WNBA along with Reese have encountered a lot of scrutiny from outside voices, but their quality of play has never wavered. People have compared this WNBA rookie class to the 2003 NBA Draft class that featured LeBron James, Carmelo Anthony and Dwyane Wade, and Reese has been a major part of holding that mantle.

What a ride it’s been for Reese and the Sky, and it’s bound to get even better.
