Brian Branch ejected after targeting hit on Bo Melton

The Lions have lost their free safety after an illegal hit. On the same play, James Houston twisted Jordan Love’s ankle late at the end of the play.

One of the more critical games on the NFL’s Week 9 slate is a pivotal game between NFC North rivals the Green Bay Packers and the Detroit Lions. With Jared Goff and company leading the division, the Packers are hoping that with Jordan Love in the lineup, and a packed house at Lambeau Field behind them, they can get the win at home to gain an advantage in the division.

Now, the Lions are going to be without talented safety Brian Branch for the rest of the game.

Branch was ejected midway through the second quarter for this hit on Packers’ receiver Bo Melton:

Astute observers also noted that on the play, Lions pass rusher James Houston went low on Love, who has been dealing with groin and knee injuries this season. Love suffered a groin injury a week ago, which put his status for Sunday’s game against Detroit in doubt:

The Lions lead the Packers 7-3 just before halftime in this contest.
