The 2009 Masters Champion will compete in the Masters for the first time in six years.

Angel Cabrera is returning to Augusta National this spring.

Golfweek first reported the news.

The 55-year-old Argentine has not played at The Masters since 2019, when he missed the cut after posting rounds of 82 and 75 across the first two days.

In the 18 months after that, he sporadically played on the PGA Tour Champions, making 11 starts overall. His best finish during that stretch came at the 2019 Ally Challenge, where he tied for 21st thanks to a final round 66.

In September 2020, he withdrew from the PURE Insurance Championship, which marked his final start on the PGA Tour Champions for roughly three-and-a-half years. Approximately four months after that, in January 2021, Brazilian authorities arrested Cabrera on assault charges involving former romantic partners, according to The New York Post.

He was then extradited to Argentina and served another two years in prison. Argentinian authorities released Cabrera in August 2023.

Then, in December 2023, the PGA Tour cleared Cabrera to compete in tour-sanctioned events, thus paving the way for him to return to professional golf. He played in 12 events on the PGA Tour Champions last year, 10 of which came in July, August, September, and October. Cabrera, known as ‘El Pato,’ tied for fifth at The Senior Open held at Carnoustie, his best career finish in a senior major.

He could not play in last year’s Masters — and the beginning half of the PGA Tour Champions season — because his visa to enter the United States was temporarily declined. That issue has since been resolved, clearing Cabrera to return to Augusta. He also has status on the PGA Tour Champions in 2025, thanks to him finishing among the top 10 at PGA Tour Champions Final Q-School this past December. So far this season, Cabrera tied for 19th at the Trophy Hassan II in Morocco and then finished T-51 at the Chubb Classic in Naples.
