‘Be careful what you wish for’ warn the Boston Celtics
Be careful what you wish for.
That is the message coming from the Boston Celtics as dawn breaks on the 2024 NBA Finals. Later tonight the TD Garden will roar to life as the Celtics host the Dallas Mavericks in Game 1. But ahead of tipoff, the Celtics have released a hype video with that message warning Mavericks fans that their wishes for a matchup with Boston might not go as well as they dreamed of.
With Tom Brady providing the narration.
The video starts with clips of opposing fans chanting “We want Boston” ahead of a series with the Celtics. This includes Miami Heat fans, Indiana Pacers fans, Cleveland Cavaliers fans, and yes, Dallas Mavericks fans. As you know, those did not go Miami, Cleveland, or Indiana’s way. The Celtics dispatched the Heat 4-1 in the opening-round series, and then knocked off Cleveland, again in 4-1 fashion.
Boston then booked their spot in the NBA Finals with a sweep of the Pacers.
“Really? You want Boston? Take it from me: that’s a bad idea,” Brady says in the video. “The [Heat] culture? History. Cleveland? Done for. … And Indy? Over with. But us? We’re still here. Right now, you’re gonna want anyone but Boston.”
The video also sneaks in a shot at the New York Knicks, showing a clips of Knicks fans chanting “We want Boston” before a quick glimpse of Madison Square Garden, with the former quarterback then quipping “oh wait, wrong team.”
