The Eagles are headed to Super Bowl 59 in New Orleans. We break down their recent history in the big game.

The Philadelphia Eagles are headed back for another crack at the Lombardi Trophy. The Washington Commanders gave them a tough fight for the first three quarters of the 2025 NFC Championship, but the Eagles bullied them in the fourth quarter and currently lead 48-23 with less than eight minutes remaining in the game. Barring a miracle, the Eagles will head to New Orleans later next week where they’ll begin preparations to play in Super Bowl 59. They’ll face the winner of the Bills-Chiefs AFC Championship game.

Eagles Super Bowl history

When was the last appearance for Philly?

This marks the second trip in three years to the Super Bowl. The Eagles faced the Kansas City Chiefs in that game and lost 38-35 after Harrison Butker kicked a game-winning field goal with eight seconds left in the game.

Philly led 24-14 after a field goal to close the second quarter, but blew that lead early in the fourth quarter. Jalen Hurts tied up the game with a touchdown run and a two-point conversion carry, but the Chiefs got the last chance and finished it off. Hurts threw for 304 yards and a touchdown while also leading the team on the ground, rushing for 70 yards and three touchdowns. The Eagles defense held Patrick Mahomes to 182 yards, but he also threw three touchdown passes.

The Chiefs are hosting the Buffalo Bills on Sunday evening in the AFC Championship, which means the Eagles have a chance for revenge from Super Bowl 57. If the Eagles can win in two weeks, it will be the second Lombardi Trophy in franchise history.

When was the last time the Eagles won the Super Bowl?

This marks the team’s fifth trip to the Super Bowl. They lost their first three trips, but took home their first Lombardi Trophy in 2018. That year, they beat the New England Patriots 41-33 in a game highlighted by the Philly Special touchdown play that saw Trey Burton throw a touchdown pass to Nick Foles.
