Arthur Leclerc will drive in FP1 at the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix, helping make a little F1 history in the process

The final race of the 2024 Formula 1 season is sure to be an emotional affair. Not only will the race decide the Constructors’ Championship fight between McLaren and Ferrari, but you have several drivers winding down their current F1 careers, Lewis Hamilton driving his last race for Mercedes, and Carlos Sainz Jr. driving for the last time at Ferrari.

Now we can add a little F1 history to the docket.

Ferrari announced on Wednesday that Arthur Leclerc, Charles Leclerc’s brother, will drive in Sainz’s place during the first practice session.

That will mark the first time in the history of the sport that brothers will participate in an F1 session as teammates:

The younger Leclerc drove for Prema Racing for two seasons in F3, before jumping to F2 for the 2023 campaign. He spent this past season driving in the European Le Mans Series for Panis Racing, as well as the Italian GT Endurance Championship for Scuderia Baldini. He is also a development driver for Ferrari.

As for the older Leclerc, he is hoping to help Ferrari clinch the Constructors’ Championship later in the week, after making some history alongside his brother on Friday.
