Rory McIlroy emerged from a stacked leaderboard to take home the hardware at Pebble Beach. Here are the full results and payouts.
The moment of the final round came on the par-5 14th hole, where Rory McIlroy once again smothered his tee shot over the Eucalyptus Trees on the corner of the dogleg and found a part of the fairway that nobody else could even fathom reaching. From there, McIlroy launched a 7-iron onto the green — his playing partner Sepp Straka hit 7-wood — and then he drained a 26-footer for an eagle three.
His eagle make on this almighty par-5 extended his lead to four with four holes to play, which all but secured the title. Nobody could catch McIlroy, and everyone knew it too, making the last hour a peaceful one for the Northern Irishman. He only had to avoid the Pacific Ocean, which he did with ease en route to a 6-under 66. He ultimately won the 27th title of his PGA Tour career by two shots over Shane Lowry,
“It’s been a great week for a lot of different reasons, hole-in-one, playing Cypress for the first time, obviously getting a win,” McIlroy said.
“I couldn’t wish for a better start for my PGA Tour season. I’ve been on a nice run of form since last fall. I’ve played some really good golf and continued that into this year.”
