Romain Langasque, a DP World tour pro from France, withdrew from The Open after suffering an injury.

Romain Langasque, competing in his fourth career Open Championship, has withdrawn due to a back injury.

After stepping up to the tee at the par-3 8th, the famous 123-yard hole known as ‘The Postage Stamp,’ Langasque hit an 84-yard-tee shot into thick fescue well short of the green. He slapped his second shot well over the putting surface and into more trouble. Then, Langasque decided that he had enough.

He turned around, signaled to his caddy, took off his hat, and shook the walking official’s hand, delivering the news that he needed to go home, per Christopher Powers of Golf Digest. He did the same to his playing competitors, C.T. Pan and Yuto Katsuragawa.

Langasque sat at 3-over through seven holes, but his back clearly aided his poor play.

It’s an unfortunate reality for the Frenchman, who finished solo third at last week’s Genesis Scottish Open. Langasque carded a 6-under 64 on Sunday to climb the leaderboard into the top three. He even eagled the par-5 16th like Robert MacIntyre, which certainly helped his final standing.

He also played well the week before, tying for ninth at the BMW International Open. But his trip to the Open Championship was unfortunately short-lived, as it all ended on one of the shortest holes in golf.
