Caleb Williams’ spectacular jump pass for Bears might be his best throw yet

Caleb Williams dropped a dime on the run for the Bears.

The Chicago Bears were one of the most hyped young teams in the NFL entering the season after selecting QB Caleb Williams with the No. 1 overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft. Chicago was on the brink of a 5-2 when Jayden Daniels’ Hail Mary ripped their hearts out. The Bears haven’t won since, with a blocked game-winning field goal against the rival Green Bay Packers serving as their latest heartbreaker last week.

While the Bears’ season has gone down the drain, Williams has still showed some flashes of brilliance. He should have led a pair of game-winning drives against the Washington Commanders before Daniels’ Hail Mary. He should have led another game-winning drive against the Packers before the blocked field goal. Facing the Minnesota Vikings in Week 12, Williams made perhaps the best throw of his young career to set up a short touchdown run.

On 2nd-and-12, Williams avoided an untouched Vikings blitzer, rolled to his right, and fired a perfect jump pass to running back D’Andre Swift down the field. Watch the play here:

NFL evaluators talk about quarterbacks who can make “off-platform” throws. This dime by Williams is the epitome of that. Look at the arm and body angle as he launched this ball to Swift.

Williams might have made an even better throw earlier in the drive when he fit a ball into a tight window for Keenan Allen for a big gain.

The Bears scored on a Roschon Johnson goal line run a couple plays later. It’s the first time all year Chicago has scored first.

The Bears need to fire head coach Matt Eberflus. Still having Williams around will continue to give this snakebitten franchise at least a little hope.
