Draymond Green’s disgusting lie about Karl-Anthony Towns was made even worse by his reaction to the truth

Draymond Green spread misinformation about Karl-Anthony Towns, and refused to take accountability.

Draymond Green went on his podcast and told the world a lie about why Karl-Anthony Towns missed the New York Knicks’ game with the Golden State Warriors earlier this week. Green said Towns missed the game because he didn’t want to face Jimmy Butler — his former teammate who he once beefed with as members of the Minnesota Timberwolves.

Green was totally off-base. Towns actually missed the game to attend the funeral of a family friend who died of breast cancer. When Green was told this following the Warriors’ win over the Brooklyn Nets on Thursday night, he refused to take accountability for spreading misinformation and used it as an excuse to promote his podcast.

Green is already transitioning to media before the end of his playing days, but an incident like this proves he has no journalistic integrity. Watch Green’s disappointing reaction to hearing the truth about Towns in the post-game press conference after the win over the Nets here:

Here’s the transcription of Green’s answer:

Oh, man That’s unfortunate. I’m sorry to hear that. That sucks. But my comments that I made, was that ‘what I heard was this. And that’s what I heard.’ So I do send my well wishes to him and his family. We all experience death in one way or another, and we’ll all experience it the same way one day. So it’s unfortunate. You never wish that on anybody. But the Draymond Green Show with Baron Davis must go on.” I definitely wish them well and wish their family well. You know, we all go through that. And it’s never easy for anyone. But the Draymond Green Show with Baron Davis will go on.”

Green’s excuse for spreading misinformation about Towns shows how far he has to go as a media member. He said he repeated the lie because “that’s what someone told him.” Any worthy media member with platform as big as Green’s would work to confirm the rumor before telling it to their audience — especially when Draymond said he’s tight with Towns’ father.

Here’s the original clip where Green says Towns missed the game because he didn’t want to face Jimmy Butler:

Most NBA fans are aware of the history between Towns and Butler. Green referenced the infamous practice in Minnesota where Butler berated the entire Wolves organization, including Towns, during a scrimmage. Following the practice, Butler gave an interview to ESPN where he mocked Towns and gloated about beating his team in the scrimmage. There have been a few incidents of on-court trash talking since then when Butler and Towns face off.

The Warriors are rolling with Butler in tow. Golden State improved to 10-1 since trading for Butler at the deadline by beating the Nets last night. Stephen Curry is playing out of his mind right now, and Butler’s physical inside game is providing a wonderful complement to Curry’s outside shot-making.

Everything is going so well for the Warriors at the moment, but Green just can’t help himself. His lack of human decency has been on display throughout his entire career. In addition to being an unsavory guy, Green is also a terrible “new media” journalist. He needs to grow up on the mic if he wants to be properly respected.
