After the FIA dropped a compliance investigation, Mercedes is considering legal action

With the statement Thursday from the Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile (FIA), Formula 1’s governing body, that a compliance investigation into Mercedes Team Principal Toto Wolff, and his wife Susie Wolff, the Managing Director of F1 Academy, had been dropped, you might have thought the matter was closed.

But it seems we might just be getting started.

The Mercedes boss released a statement on Friday, seemingly in response to the numerous press inquiries which had come his way. Wolff demurred on commenting for now, noting that the team is in “active legal exchange” with the FIA.

“We understand that there is significant media interest in the events of this week,” the statement from Wolff begins. “We are currently in active legal exchange with the FIA. We await full transparency about what took place and why, and have expressly reserved all legal rights”
