This was terrifying.
Sunday’s Grand Prix in Monaco is the main event of the racing weekend, but Formula 2 is also in the city this weekend for their own race — and the first qualifying group gave us one of the scariest near-miss events you’ll ever see.
Ritomo Miyata stalled out in the tunnel, and came to a stop dangerously positioned on the race line around the bend. There wasn’t enough time to properly warn Isack Hadjar, who somehow managed to tap the brakes and swerve at the perfect time to not only avoid Miyata, but ensured he didn’t overcorrect and put himself into the wall.
Absolutely masterful driving from Hadjar, in what could put an entire cloud of disaster over the weekend. Victor Martins has pole in the F2, with Hadjar in 4th place — even with the near-miss in the tunnel.
There’s no word at this time on what occurred with Miyata’s car that led to the incident.
