Arguably the best defensive player in the NFL has requested a trade.

Super Bowl 59 Opening Night is tonight, as the Philadelphia Eagles and the Kansas City Chiefs are set to meet the media in New Orleans ahead of their rematch of Super Bowl LVII on Sunday.

But the biggest news of the day has just been made by a player, and a team, not in New Orleans for the big game.

Superstar pass rusher Myles Garrett confirmed in a statement on social media that he has requested a trade from the Cleveland Browns, the team that drafted him first overall in the 2017 NFL Draft. In his statement, Garrett indicated that while he has loved calling the city of Cleveland home, as a kid his dreaming of the NFL his “ultimate goal” was playing in, and winning a Super Bowl.

Which is why he is seeking a trade:

There should be no shortage of suitors for Garrett, the 2023 NFL Defensive Player of the Year and a four-time All-Pro selection. Garrett is coming off another stellar NFL campaign, as he recorded 14 sacks in 2024, his seventh-straight season with double-digit sacks. Garrett does all of this while commanding a tremendous amount of attention from opposing blocking schemes, from double teams to chips from tight ends and running backs.

Now it looks like he will be doing that for a new team next fall.
