Eagles-Chiefs kicks off with Super Bowl Opening Night. Here is what you need to know

On the Monday night ahead of Super Bowl 50 players such as Von Miller, Peyton Manning, and Cam Newton walked across a replica of the Golden Gate Bridge at the SAP Center in San Jose, California. They ushered in a new era in Super Bowl history.

The first-ever Super Bowl Opening Night.

For decades Media Day at the Super Bowl was held on Tuesday afternoon, as the players and coaches from both teams met the media and answered questions from the probing to the bizarre. But that all changed in 2016, in part to acknowledge the 50th installment of the Super Bowl but also in an effort to get more eyeballs on the event, and Media Day was turned into a prime-time showcase on the Monday evening ahead of the Super Bowl.

Tonight, the 10th installment of Super Bowl Opening Night kicks off Super Bowl LIX, as the Philadelphia Eagles and the Kansas City Chiefs are set to meet the media from around the world in New Orleans. Here is how, and what, to watch.

What players are participating in Super Bowl 59 Opening Night?

The short answer: Every player and coach is scheduled to be at Super Bowl LIX Opening Night, which runs from 5:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. local (Central) time.

However, 12 players, coaches, and yes, a “fan podium” from each team are being provided designated podiums, with three of those reserved for prominent members of the team, starting with the head coach.

For the Philadelphia Eagles, who will be up first on Monday night, here are the 12 individuals selected for the podiums:

  • A.J. Brown
  • Jalen Hurts*
  • Saquon Barkley*
  • Lane Johnson
  • Jordan Mailata
  • Dallas Goedert
  • Zack Baun
  • Darius Slay, Jr.
  • Nick Sirianni*
  • Brandon Graham
  • “Fan Podium”

Here are the 12 individuals selected for the podiums from the Kansas City Chiefs:

  • Chris Jones
  • Nick Bolton
  • Patrick Mahomes*
  • Travis Kelce*
  • Justin Reid
  • Trent McDuffie
  • Isah Pacheco
  • Harrison Butker
  • DeAndre Hopkins
  • Andy Reid*
  • Zavier Worthy
  • “Fan Podium”

Podium assignments with the * notation are designated as “Primary” podiums by the NFL.

The Eagles are set to meet with the media from 7:05 p.m. to 8:15 p.m. local time, with team introductions happening at 7:00 p.m. local time. The Chiefs will follow from 8:50 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. local time, with their team introductions happening at 8:45 p.m.

The teams will walk out of the northeast tunnel at Caesars Superdome, while media members will walk out of the northwest tunnel.

If you are near New Orleans and wish to attend Super Bowl Opening Night you are in luck! According to the NFL tickets to the event — with “no hidden fees” — are available at SuperBowl.com/OpeningNight. For fans in attendance, Super Bowl Opening Night will include “live New Orleans style entertainment, special appearances and autographs by NFL Legends, and team mascots, as well as fan photo opportunities and the chance to see Super Bowl players and coaches answer media’s questions in real time.”

Fans who attend Super Bowl Opening Night are encouraged to download the NFL OnePass app and bring their own headphones to listen to the each podium. Headphones will also be available for purchase tonight at Caesars Superdome for $20.

However, if you cannot attend Super Bowl Opening Night at Caesars Superdome, the event will be aired on the NFL Network, and available for streaming on NFL+.
