Wednesday’s WNBA slate includes five games, each with major playoff implications.
Wednesday marks a busy evening of WNBA play, as 10 of 12 teams in the league compete. Here’s the full slate, complete with playoff implications.
The Connecticut Sun (22-7) take on the Indiana Fever (14-16) at 7pm ET
The Sun, winners of three straight games, will look to secure a win and ride the momentum of their Saturday night win over the Liberty. There’s a race brewing for the #2 seed — Minnesota has won 6 straight games, and is now just half a game behind the Sun.
Caitlin Clark and the Fever are fresh off a big win over the Dream, one that increased their lead for the #7 seed to 2.5 games. Indiana is 0-3 against Connecticut this season, so they’ll look to get in the league column against one of the league’s best defenses.
The Washington Mystics (8-22) head to Chicago to face the Sky (11-18) at 8pm ET
The Mystics have won two consecutive games for the first time all season, with Brittney Sykes coming into her own. Meanwhile, the Sky look to hold onto the final playoff spot with just 11 games left to play — they currently have a one-game lead over the Dream, but will be without Chennedy Carter tonight, who’s out due to health and safety protocols. It’s a critical game for Chicago, who are fresh off a two-point loss to the Aces.
Something else to watch: Angel Reese has grabbed 20+ rebounds in three consecutive games. Will that streak continue tonight?
The New York Liberty (26-5) face the Los Angeles Sparks (6-24) at 10pm ET
The Liberty have been the best WNBA team all season, and the Sparks are on a league-worse 7 game losing streak. So, this one should be a victory for New York — though anything can happen in the game of basketball.
Of note, Sabrina Ionescu has struggled since her return from a brief absence due to a neck injury — she’s hit just 8 of her last 30 shot attempts. Liberty fans will want to see how she fares tonight as she eases back into game flow.
The Atlanta Dream (10-19) visit the Seattle Storm (18-11) at 10pm ET
The Dream came out of the Olympic game with three consecutive wins, including a game-winner by Tina Charles. But, they’ve since lost two games in a row, a setback as they look to catch up with the Sky in the standings. They’re just one game behind, and Atlanta could tie Chicago tonight with a Dream win and Sky loss.
Meanwhile the Storm have lost three of four games, and frustrations boiled over in their Monday loss to the Mystics. Skylar Digggins-Smith called the loss unacceptable in a profanity-laced rant.
The Minnesota Lynx (22-8) travel to Phoenix to see the Mercury (16-15) at 10pm ET
The Lynx are on a league-best 6 game win streak, and will look to continue building momentum in Phoenix tonight. The Mercury have hovered at around .500 all season, and are 3-3 since the Olympic break.
Phoenix has just a 1.5 game lead over Indiana for the #6 seed, and will look to encroach on the #5 Aces.
