The Spurs are expected to be without Victor Wembanyama for the rest of the 2025 NBA season

Victor Wembanyama’s promising second NBA season has been cut short due to an injury, per reports.

ESPN NBA Insider Shams Charania reported on Thursday that the San Antonio Spurs star will miss the remainder of the 2024-2025 season with a deep vein thrombosis in his right shoulder. According to Charania, has a form of a blood clot in his shoulder, which the team believes is an isolated occurrence:

On Wednesday Wembanyama was listed as doubtful for the Spurs’ Thursday night game against the Phoenix Suns, with the team indicating that his status was in doubt due to an illness.

The second-year star is coming off an appearance at the NBA All-Star Game, and was averaging a double-double on the year, averaging 24.3 points per game and 11 rebounds per contest. The Spurs enter the second half of the 2024-2025 NBA season with a 23-29 record, sitting 14th in the Western Conference.
