The 7’5 guy is shooting logo threes now.
Victor Wembanyama lived up to every ounce of his almost unprecedented hype last season as a rookie. What will he do for an encore in his sophomore season? Wembanyama is a trendy pick to be an NBA All-Star, the preseason betting favorite to win Defensive Player of the Year, and if all goes according to plan, might just carry his San Antonio Spurs into the Western Conference playoff race.
Wembanyama is so freakishly talented that he feels capable of anything. At 7’5 with an 8-foot wingspan, the 20-year-old Frenchman can play all over the floor on both ends. That includes, apparently, launching three-pointers with his heels on the logo. Watch video of Wembanyama ripping a ridiculously deep pull-up three here:
Wembanyama is obviously on his way to being a fantastic player. It would be a huge upset if he’s not universally considered the best player in the world at some point in his career. If I have one criticism of his game to this point, though, it’s that he seems a little too happy to jack up outside shots.
This make shows that he absolutely has the touch to make them even if the percentages haven’t caught up yet.
Wembanyama is so absurdly long that he’s completely overwhelming playing near the basket. The three-point shot should be a complement to his game, not his bread-and-butter.
Regardless, Wemby is leveling up at a wild rate. It wouldn’t surprise me if these super deep shots start falling more regularly as he goes on his career.
