Draymond Green spread misinformation about Karl-Anthony Towns, and refused to take accountability.
Draymond Green went on his podcast and told the world a lie about why Karl-Anthony Towns missed the New York Knicks’ game with the Golden State Warriors earlier this week. Green said Towns missed the game because he didn’t want to face Jimmy Butler — his former teammate who he once beefed with as members of the Minnesota Timberwolves.
Green is already transitioning to media before the end of his playing days, but an incident like this proves he has no journalistic integrity. Watch Green’s disappointing reaction to hearing the truth about Towns in the post-game press conference after the win over the Nets here:
Q “You seen reaction to your KAT comments [that he ducked game v Warriors]? Were you aware of circumstances?”
Draymond “No”
Q “He was at funeral for family friend”
Draymond “Oh man…But what I heard was…what I heard…I send well wishes…but the Draymond Green Show will go on” pic.twitter.com/jy0RICbUvv
Oh, man That’s unfortunate. I’m sorry to hear that. That sucks. But my comments that I made, was that ‘what I heard was this. And that’s what I heard.’ So I do send my well wishes to him and his family. We all experience death in one way or another, and we’ll all experience it the same way one day. So it’s unfortunate. You never wish that on anybody. But the Draymond Green Show with Baron Davis must go on.” I definitely wish them well and wish their family well. You know, we all go through that. And it’s never easy for anyone. But the Draymond Green Show with Baron Davis will go on.”
Green’s excuse for spreading misinformation about Towns shows how far he has to go as a media member. He said he repeated the lie because “that’s what someone told him.” Any worthy media member with platform as big as Green’s would work to confirm the rumor before telling it to their audience — especially when Draymond said he’s tight with Towns’ father.
Here’s the original clip where Green says Towns missed the game because he didn’t want to face Jimmy Butler:
Draymond Green jokes about KAT missing a game because Jimmy Butler was in town…
…Karl-Anthony Towns’s girlfriend, Jordyn Woods, actually lost a close friend to cancer
Everything is going so well for the Warriors at the moment, but Green just can’t help himself. His lack of human decency has been on display throughout his entire career. In addition to being an unsavory guy, Green is also a terrible “new media” journalist. He needs to grow up on the mic if he wants to be properly respected.
